Phillies ATL Trip 2010 Day 1

Dad and I set off to Atlanta around 10:30am to catch game 2 of a 3 game series between the Phils and the Braves. Dad got us a room at the Marriott Marquis downtown with he points so our stay was free! Man was this place nice.

That's looking up at the elevator shafts from the main floor. The place was huge and buzzing with folks. It seemed most of them were attending the game as well. We went up to our room on the 35th floor and suit up for the game.

Our view!

We headed outside and the valet flagged us down a taxi. Downtown Atlanta was crazy and we were in the lets get there fast mode and of course the taxi driver had to stop for gas. He was very hard to understand but seemed like a cool guy and had a good sense of humor. He drove up as close as he could and we headed into the stadium. Our seats were at the 400 level but still weren't bad. There was a Bobby Cox celebration going on so they had a stage on the field with all the current players seating up the base lines and ex players seating in front of the stage. Some included: Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, Dale Murphy, Phil Niekro, Gary Sheffield, Andres Galarraga, David Justice and Hank Arron. It was a cool little celebration of Cox's career in baseball. 25 years as a coach. The players got him and his wife an 11 day Mediterranean cruise and the organization got him a new 2010 Lexus LS 460.

Soon after Hanson throws the first pitch.

Ryan Madson pitching in the bottom of the 8th, winning 5-0.

The Phillies stomped them 7-0 and lessened their changes at making the playoffs. So after the game we decided to walk back to the hotel. It was a 1.8 mile walk and we got back in about 35 minutes and it wasn't a back walk at all. The hotel was still buzzing.

The view from our room at night.

So next, we need food! Go down to the bar in hopes of food and football. The bar doesn't have food so we walk into Sear. Already knew it wasn't the place for us, no TVs, but no wait. We look over the menu and nothing seems appealing minus the 38$ steak! The host tells us about the place next door, High Velocity. We head over there (next door as in right next to Sear inside the hotel) and this is more like it! TVs everywhere, beer and bar food! Only one thing, 30 minute wait and the bar was totally full. Time for the ol' fall back, pizza. Walk over to the concierge desk and he already has the numbers for Papa John's and Domino's. Call Papa, 1-1.5 hour delivery time, awesome! We decided to put our name in at High Velocity and just wait the 30. There is a line at the host stand and time was pushed back even more. So Sear it is!

This is the ONLY thing on the menu I would of eaten that was under 35 bucks!

Yup it's a Caesar Salad made to look expensive. That bad boy was $11! Dad also got a salad.

2 salads and 2 beers (that's one each) we headed to bed.
